  • Ryan Coleman

I teach Visual Arts at Winthrop High School, heading into my fifth year in the district. My teaching style is rooted in giving students hands-on experience with both traditional and contemporary art practices. The goal is simple: build their skills in critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and visual communication while keeping the work relevant and engaging.

Outside of class, I advise the WHS Art Club, where we’ve built an inclusive community for students who want to make, share, and celebrate art together. I’m committed to expanding and strengthening the Arts program at WHS so every student has access to meaningful, diverse artistic experiences.

I’m originally from New York but have spent the past 14 years living and working in Boston and the North Shore, teaching students at every level of artistic development. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Education from Boston University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from SUNY Purchase.

As both an artist and educator, I care about helping young people build visual literacy, develop their own creative voice, and use art as a way to express perspective and identity. I’m excited to keep pushing the Arts forward at WHS and to keep creating opportunities that inspire students to think, make, and see the world differently.
