Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Kari-ann Murphy
I am thrilled to be working here at the Arthur T. Cummings Elementary School. My goal is to inspire, engage, and encourage students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom!
I began working for the Winthrop Public Schools in 2016. I began my career in Malden, Massachusetts and from there to Medford, and I spent 8 years teaching science Chelsea. While with Chelsea Public Schools in addition to teaching students, I also served as a district instructional coach and professional development provider.
I grew up in Everett, Massachusetts and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Salem State University, a master’s degree in Middle School Science and a CAGS in School leadership and reform from Salem State University. I then earned my doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University. My doctoral work focused on identifying ways to motivate and engage students to improve achievement and create a positive culture that fosters success. I hold a Massachusetts State licensure in the areas of Elementary Educations, Middle School Science, English as a Second Language, and School Administration in grades K-8.
In addition to serving as the Assistant Principal of the ATC, I am also a professional development provider for the Salem State Collaborative.
As an urban educator, I have gained a perspective and understanding of the challenges involved with delivering high quality educational opportunities in this age of change. I look forward to getting to you our students and their families!
